Impacting Advertisements

Advertisements are an easy way to get information across to people due to the fact that everyone sees them at least once a day. There's that advertisement on the billboard on your way to work, there's that commercial that they always show during your favorite television show, there's that magazine with the entire back page for some product that they obviously want you to buy. Everyday, we're bombarded with advertisements. As of recently, more are appearing that have to do with things that aren't just products, but for awareness. Here are some of the most riveting advertisements raising awareness for domestic violence:

     This advertisement focuses on spousal domestic abuse.The way I personally interpreted it was that there is the father's mug that appears to be new and untouched. Also, note how it is in the very front of the cabinet, hiding all of the other dishes. Behind the dad's mug is the mom's. The mom's coffee mug appears to be cracked, tarnished, and the paint seems to be wearing off. This is symbolizing the way that the mom may feel. She is probably "broken" due to the fact that her husband abuses her, whether it's physically or emotionally.

     This advertisement is showing that abuse is all around us. The woman appears to be painted on a punching bag, indicating that someone within her life is using her as a "punching bag" by taking out whatever problems they may have on her. She seems to be okay as she stands out in public and no one realizes the fact that something very dangerous is going on at home. This advertisement clearly shows that just because someone doesn't appear to be battered and beaten, doesn't mean they aren't damaged in any way.

This next advertisement targets children who are domestically battered.
